Follow these steps to create a desktop shortcut that routes to the test database instead of production.
-
Duplicate Shortcut
Right-click your live Epicor desktop shortcut, select
Copy, then right-click an empty desktop space and select
Paste.
-
Rename Icon
Right-click the new shortcut, select
Rename, and change it to
Vista Test.
-
Update Target Property
Right-click the icon, select
Properties, and open the
Shortcut tab.
Keep your existing client folder path intact in the
Target field, but append or change the very end of the string to look exactly like the target flag below:
.../MfgSys.exe /CONFIG=test.mfgsys
Depending on your workstation setup, your final path string will look like one of these:
- • C:\Epicor400client\MfgSys.exe /CONFIG=test.mfgsys
- • C:\Epicor400\MfgSys.exe /CONFIG=test.mfgsys
- • C:\Epicorclient\MfgSys.exe /CONFIG=test.mfgsys
-
Set Compatibility Mode
Still in the Properties menu, click over to the
Compatibility tab. Check the box for
"Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select
Windows 7. Click Apply and then OK.
-
Log In
Launch the new shortcut. You can log in using your normal production environment credentials.
Reminder: Always verify that the top application window title bar explicitly states "Test" before executing any mock transactions.
